RE: California RV Endorsement

The percentage of 10k (+) lb 5th wheels that travel through CA from outside, vs the residents that have to take the test... Just reminds you how screwed up this state really is. I'm amazed that outsiders aren't turned around at the border who haven't passed the test.

RE: Is it just Dometic?

That solves half the issues. I have an American RM 2652. Maybe things not as bad as I thought... but I still want my confirmation LED that ties to the ignitor circuit whenever the flame is burning.

RE: Is it just Dometic?

Our Norcold has a steady green light "working". Also a separate orange flashing light "malfunction". So on a Norcold, what criteria has to be met for the green LED to illuminate? Sounds like what I wish to have on my Dometic.

RE: Is it just Dometic?

dougrainer: I was not challenging you. The frig may well be designed to throw the check light after 45 sec, but I was stating a fact that mine does not illuminate the "check" LED for a duration of up to 5 min... so I conclude my frig then has two problems: 1) It fails to start after sitting for 2-3 weeks (average time in storage), but once it starts it's fine 2) It takes five minutes for the fail light to come on To fix #1, I'm going to gamble I need to replace the ignitor, because this started first on a rainy day, which was identical problem I had on an earlier Dometic refer. To fix #2, I would be open to any suggestions. If I can catch it in this duration the next time, I might be able to see how long the ignitor is firing, or what is taking place. This is probbly the 4th or 5th time over the last year that it has done this... unfortunately it is not every time. I would suggest Dometic include an LED that ties into the ignitor circuit to tell the user if it sees the flame burning. A check light would be nice for any other failures...

RE: Is it just Dometic?

It only takes 45 seconds before the Check light comes on, not 5 minutes. Untrue statement, but that was true on a 2000 yr model I had. I haven't had consistant problems yet, but mine will be close to, if not more than 5 minutes before the fail light appears. Perhaps it has multiple issues, I don't know yet. Someone suggested that it might attempt multiple cylcles at ignition before throwing the fail light, which would be possible reason for the extended timeframe.... Thanks for bringing to the attention that it won't provide alert if it fails on 120v also. What a piece of junk.

Is it just Dometic?

My frig has no confirmation light that it is working. Only a fail light, that can take up to 5 minutes until it lets me know... I already walked outside assuming it is working to come back hours later and find it's not cold yet. What if the light fails? This drives me nuts. Q- Do different models / manufacturers have a green, "I'm working" light?

RE: 08 Dodge Diesel 6 Spd Auto Question

Not sure soot buildup is an issue with the lower rpm's, but definately use the EB all the time when you drive. I let it cruise around 45 mph doing 1100 rpm without worrying about it... Seems unreal after driving a gasser, just get used to it. CEL has thrown a few irrationality codes at me, but they clear and don't come back for a loong time. I have read and concluded that these are non issues...

RE: Holding Tank Sensor issue

Follow up: Contacted KIB Enterprises in hopes of more info on their tank monitor system. Very helpful with a quick response that included thorough troubleshooting advice. I highly recommend this company as their customer service is top notch. http://www.kibenterprises.com/ Made it easy to diagnose for sure what I needed to look for... came down to the tank sensors in need of replacement. Found them at a local RV store (just plain old well nuts) and it was easy. The hardest part was getting the vinyl underbelly down and out of the way to access the tank. Now I just have to figure out how to keep the tank clean... Thanks for the replies.

RE: Battery disconnect for large inverter

I will just pull the in-line fuse out if I need a "disconnect". I got a 200a fuse and holder at the auto sound shop that just fit my 1/0 welding cables. I also have a small dicsonnect from the battery for the other trailer loads (got it at the same place). Not nearly as shocking to the wallet compared to what I had been looking at before...

RE: California Drivers license RV endorsement

So if you are from out of state towing a 10K plus rig and get in an accident while passing thru... you don't get big doo doo like a resident does... I love Kalifornia. Glad my rig is only rated at 9960 gvwr... 5 years to retirement and I'm out of here!

Holding Tank Sensor issue

Tried the search.... I have a Keystone Cougar where the Galley tank (push to test) shows all three LEDs through 3/4 full. I realize everyone says these are junk, but mine has worked fine for two years until suddenly it gives the 3/4 all the time. I used the Thetford tank sensor cleaner, and still get the lights. I took apart the display looking for trimmer pots, but there are no adjustments.... It'd be cool to have some input on how this system works so I can troubleshoot... or other suggestions other than trying to guesstimate how much goes into the tank. Has anyone physically removed, cleaned and / or replaced a senosr with any luck on similar (ie, are sensors typically removeable)?

RE: Grand Caynon

edit I was going to recommend making reservations thru Xanterra to stay in the park, but their website is unclear / poor.... as I recall, so is everything about them. I think they are the only way to get full HU inside the park (which is in a campground called Trailer Village).

Keystone graphics lifting already

I have a 2 year old Cougar and have tried to keep up on the wax and regular wash of the rig... maybe I should have waxed it every month. The fiberglass front of the 5er gets direct sunlight, and the edges of the decals / stickers are starting to lift up (only here so far). Anyone find a way to stop or reatatch them before it gets worse? I was thinking maybe there is some 3M product that could be painted behind and then lay the edges that are lifting back down? Any other ideas? Kinda' a bummer. I thought maybe I would get at least 5 years or more with the wax and ProtectAll inbetween...

Television in your "cubby"?

Did the search, no luck. I have a television cubby hole (enclosed shelf/entertainment center) that used to hold the old 13" CRT Television, now I have a 19" LCD with a stand under it. How did you mount your flatscreen tv in the entertainment center so you never have to think about it again? Being enclosed on all sides except the front opening makes it hard to come up with ideas.... Another shelf under the TV has room for the dvd /vcr player. How did you mount yours, with velcro on the feet? Any ideas most welcome at this point.

Wind buffet paranoia

Went camping at the beach last weekend and had heavy side winds. A bit stronger than sitting in the 5er on the side of the road with a big rig blowing by you at 60mph. The rig moved quite a bit with the front landing gear and rear scissor jacks down. Creaking front landing gear and swaying forced my wife to abandon the front where the bed is in favor of the couch at the rear of the rig. Would a tripod help in these conditions, or only a negligable difference? Any other way to mitigate the swaying?

Frig keeps failing!

Dometic that is only two years old. When on propane, it keeps throwing the check light about 5 minutes after I turn the sysem off and then back on again. I just noticed after loading it for the weekend, but I had pre-cooled it for the last few days and it felt cold when first opening it to load things. I am familiar with the usual one minute failure when propane doesn't light on the burner, but this time it goes a good five minutes before the light comes on. It's raining too hard to look right now, but I am leaving tomorrow for dry camping. Any ideas?

Honda eu2000 adapter?

I have the 2000, but need the 12v male plug that fits the Honda configuration in the genny, and has a female cig lighter plug on the other end. Anyone know where to buy something like this or where I can find that strange looking male plug to go into the genny, so that I can make my own? Thanks in advance.
